Translation/Localization Portfolio

Stillfleet is a zany, dark, politically charged sci-fi RPG about exploring ruined spacecraft and habitable earth-like planets, cut off from contact with Terra for many years. I had the opportunity to localize its free Quickstart module into Brazilian Portuguese and had a great time. I wrote about the process for the Stillfleet Patreon.

The game’s lead designer, Wythe Marschall also enjoyed working with me. He says:

“Leonardo Andrade is a consummate professional and passionate game designer who does much more than translate words: he helped us understand how our core game concepts may be received in other cultural settings. And, as an editor, he helped us improve our Quickstart in English, too! We look forward to working with Leonardo again.”

Fake Chess (Xadrez de Mentira) is a wild ride. In it, we pretend to be good at chess, by playing a whole other game with chess pieces on a chess board. The way we roleplay our grandmaster personas affects our actual moves, too. I translated it into Brazilian Portuguese for Sean as part of the LATAM RPG Translation Jam.

I translated this microRPG about bardic duels in the peaceful, bucolic land of Velouria from Brazilian Portuguese to English. I did the reverse (English to Portuguese) for its companion volume and its Duels SRD. All game design and original writing are by Gabriel Kerr, who says:

“Leonardo translated my game into English quickly despite the specific terms from games and music, even making clarity better along the way. I’ll surely hire him again.”

I translated Washington Albuquerque’s Journey in Search Of The Unknown (Brazilian Portuguese to English) and I Am A Little Bit Beyond The Horizon, two journaling RPG pamphlets with very different vibes.

The author had this to say:
“Leo fit my project into his busy schedule without hesitation, wrapped up quickly, and not only delivered an excellent translation but taught me a couple things about English while at it.”

Tiny project, but I’m compelled to include it due to how useful the Dicier typeface has been in TTRPG design circles. It’s a popular asset, and its manual has been translated into many languages by volunteers on itch.io. I translated this content from English to Brazilian Portuguese.
